Day 49

I've been reading a lot of books lately. Basically this happens whenever I get my new monthly supply. Roger was even jealous because Sanderson's sequel trilogy to Mistborn is pseudo-western. But he has to finish the OG books before he gets to this one. I'm already sad that I can't get any April books until after my birthday. What will I do for the next few weeks?

I keep telling Roger this is his ideal car/truck hybrid.
He hates it.

We had a coworker pass away this week. She was driving home from a patient's house at like 8pm and hit an elk on the highway. So that's super scary and she was a really nice lady who clearly did a lot for her patients. Prayers to her fam.

Roger is really happy I notice deer now.

The YW had a self-defense activity with only 4 of us there. JJ did a great job teaching tricks and putting up with the giggles. But everyone said I was the hardest to escape from. And I made them all do it before they were allowed to go home.

A bird.

I was a little sick this week. Like the beginning stages of food poisoning. (I still did my 75 hard) but I didn't eat a whole lot. And by Friday I was actually hungry, which is really unusual for me at this point.

Roger suggested pizza, so I picked up some Little Caesar's with extra sauce and ate it in the parking lot at his work while I waited for him to be done. Then we went to see The Lost City in theaters. Would recommend if you don't mind some humor based off the MC's career as a romance novelist. And Channing Tatum's booty. Roger laughed so loud, we missed half the movie, but we'll be watching it again.

Ducks.

We had a busy Saturday starting with birdwatching for Roger's ornithology class. We saw an osprey bring several snakes back to its nest and a couple other cool birds. Rog was wishing for a telephoto lens, but my landscape deal comes first since Iceland is coming up soon, so we just have the 50mm and the wide angle lens for now.

Bird.

Grandma Sandall met us at Olive Garden for lunch. We like having lunch with her on occasion and showing her new places. We chatted about bleaching fake moss and YW activities. She's got lots of visitors around keeping her busy.

Kailan, my advisor at church, had a baby shower so I dropped in for a bit. There was a bouncy house for the kids and so many taco snacks and orchata in baby bottles and you know how these things go. Roger waited for me, since I was only there for a short time, and he was scared of all the moms who needed to breastfeed their kids in the vicinity.

This is the osprey.

We went to a Theatrikos community theater performance of Steel Magnolias, which was really well done. I've been thinking for a while that I want to get involved in this but I'm a little scared by how intimate the setting is and honestly how good they are. If I ever get released, I'd like to do it. Practices are like every night for 2 months and then performances, so I need more time.

Day 42

No VB this week, but I changed it up with some different running workouts including hill sprints and a Fartlek run (basically interval running/jogging). I had some great workouts at the gym and ended the week really looking forward to my Sunday sleep-in. That's what I miss about not doing 75 hard - the option to sleep in or to drink less water and not pee every second of the day.

Roger's Spring Break fun.

My boss is moving to Phoenix to take a promotion, which is good for her, but I really like her. She's the one person that I relate to the most here and I've really appreciated her NY style leadership. We had a potluck breakfast at the goodbye party / staff meeting and had everything from donuts to muffins to cereal/milk to fruit salad to any juice I could want to yogurt/granola and more. So I just brought protein balls and everyone loved them the best.

Felicia and I had a one-on-one boxing session this week, which I enjoyed. We both play city league volleyball, although she's been playing co-ed. But she's super chill and I like hanging out with her. She even gave me her old wraps, so I guess we're friends.

Me, texting mom my outfit and location before hiking.
Just in case.

I had a good week planning for Iceland and getting excited about photography stuff. I hope I take some good pictures, but I need to do some practicing with this camera before I go. I practiced a little in Sedona, but I need to figure some stuff out.

A good human.

On a semi-last minute whim, Cenita and I got to hang out together on a Saturday Sedona hike. She came prepped with the most extravagant charcuterie board (leftovers) I have ever eaten (or seen). And it was good to see her and chat and just be with someone with matching vibes. She is a good soul.

Day 35

This was a good week. I played volleyball as a sub (yet again) with Logan. Unfortunately, there was only so much we could do to carry the team so we ended up with 2 narrow losses. It didn't help that the ladies wanted to practice playing middle instead of us doing it. Oh well.

Olympic class was good and we just hammered in snatch form the whole time, which was really nice since I had a bad session this week. And we chatted about the exercise challenges we started with our friends that they gave up on. *cough cough*

I will say that I enjoy having an extra run on occasion and I'm doing a lot better with the increased protein in my diet. So I'll keep those up, especially as I prep for Ragnar in May. But the rest of it can go. I'm tired of going to the bathroom every ten minutes because I'm drinking so much extra water.

Somehow all my nice brushes have disappeared.
So this was the best I could do.

I had a chat with Mark Moore this week about photography and he recommended a good lens for my camera that will do most of what I want. So I bought it. Used and with a deal from the seller. But then I checked out all the stops on our Iceland trip and I am super stoked.

We had a combined activity this week to watch the Youth broadcast and eat tinfoil dinners. It was fun, the broadcast was a little cheesy, but we got a lot of the girls to interact in a card game before, so that was cool. And the meals were delicious, although I'mma tell you it was a straight suffer about 24h later.

I'm still waiting on my refund from the DMV since they overcharged me by $3K. And I've been back a few times and tried calling the Dept of Revenue myself, but they only communicate via email right now, so I finally got a message back with a form to fill out but I needed more information. So I went back to the DMV and they said they couldn't give me any of that information so then I cried and voila, my check is on its way within an hour of that meeting. Sheesh. I could have saved us all a little time by doing that earlier.

Would recommend an air fryer.

Also working on getting a spare key for our Ford Escape, but that's another story.

I got my booster on Saturday (finally) and then decided to do some painting since Roger was gone on his Spring Break part 1 trip with his brother and NOT with Collin, since he's a flake. I also made a cheesecake in our new air fryer and it was delicious.

Day 28

75 hard still going. I go on lots of runs and do yoga sometimes. Almost halfway there. Honestly though it’s not taking up too much of my brain power so that’s nice. I played volleyball with the old lady’s team again and we crushed. It is nice to be on the same team as Logan too because we can actually get some stuff done.

Boxing class is always good and we are having more people show up again which is nice. And no push-ups. I don’t mind them except that it hurts really bad after you’ve wrapped your wrists up so they won’t bend. And I’ve never been able to do them on my fists. The lesson here is that if you complain enough, people will cater to you. #gremlin

We had BYC after church last Sunday and I was hesitant to commit to the youth activity on Saturday because I was all peopled out after last weeks dance and shopping trips and work. BUT I went to the temple with Roger and the youth. I forget that it cancels out people time so the day trip doesn’t seem as long. But I was also grateful that we didn’t have to stay for the trampoline park. We drove home early, missing the blizzard, and took a nap.

It’s fast Sunday this week. And this is the first in a while where I’ve felt like I’ve gotten a really solid fast. The problem is that I’m still not really getting hungry. But I do get hangry. And it happens pretty quick. Around 3pm I start feeling the irrational anger taking over and at that point I give up. Call me a peacemaker.

I’m pretty lucky in my job that I’ve never suffered from imposter syndrome. I also feel like no matter what your background is, I probably know something that I can add. I had a cool experience this week with a post-Covid guy. We started and he was hesitant to do our session since he was having trouble breathing and talking and his O2sat was really low. I convinced him to work with me for about 30 seconds and fully commit. And by the end, his O2 jumped up 20%, he could speak at full volume, and he coughed up a heck of a lot of phlegm and could breathe better.

That was the first time I’d don’t that kind of respiratory therapy and it was nice to see some immediate results. Which I don’t get in wound care or lymphedema management or continence control. I stand by my two core beliefs: Jesus and exercise.
